The Vail Series has evolved to host an incredible diversity of acts throughout the year, from a poet laureate to Bobby McFerrin. On October 8th in Swasey, some of the rising members of the Metropolitan Opera performed classic selections from famous operas, in Italian and English. The songs were vocalized without the normal context of an opera, emphasizing the beautiful quality of these performers voices. They refused amplification, singing without microphones through feats of vocal mastery. Opera techniques developed when this projection was necessary to be heard over an orchestra. The stars sang in duet and solo, including performances by Amanda Woodbury, David Won, Kevin Short, Cecilia Hall, and pianist Brent Funderbunk. Make sure to pick up your ticket for the next Vail Series event, violinist Regina Carter on November 14.
