The inimitable Craig Finn––once frontman to Lifter Puller and now frontman to the even-better Hold Steady––has a solo record coming out real soon. Two (incredible) tracks from it (“Honolulu Blues” and “Rented Room”) were released over Thanksgiving and now it looks like you can listen to the album––entitled Clear Heart Full Eyes–in its entirety over at NPR. The record doesn’t come out until the end of the month, Jan. 24, to be precise, so until then enjoy the digital stream.
It is a good album. Seriously good. It’s undeniably Finn, sounding something like a sadder, slower, clearer Hold Steady. A lonelier, solo-er Hold Steady. Goosebumps. Good writing. Finn’s fucking voice. If any of these things sound appealing (they all should, really), check this out now.
