Stream the xx’s New Album
England’s the xx are quite something. Their debut, 2009’s really acclaimed xx, was nothing short of a masterpiece. Totally fantastic. In the years since, the xx has become pretty damn high-profile. They have truly hit it big. Their concerts are huge and packed, odd for how intimate their music is. And percussionist Jamie Smith has become a hot commodity producer/DJ under the name Jamie xx, responsible for that Gil Scott-Heron remix album and subsequently some Drake production (the gorgeous Drake/Rihanna version of Scott-Heron’s “I’ll Take Care of You”, “Take Care”, is Smith’s doing).
So, now we’re here in 2012 and Coexist, the second xx album is just about to come out. It’s a big deal. Will they be able to recreate the success of their first album? Will it bomb? Now’s your chance to find out. Coexist is now streaming over at a specially-designed promotional website that also shows you where in the world everyone is also streaming the album. It’s pretty neat. And the album itself? Is it all hot and no cattle? Well, it’s not as good as the first one. It’s maybe going to be called boring. But it’s definitely good, and it’s definitely very xx-y.
