Pretty Lights Debuts Track From First Album in Two Years
It’s been two years since Colorado-producer Pretty Lights debuted Glowing In The Darkest Night, the final installment in his trio of 2010 EPs. There has been a single or two and few video recaps, but for the most part Derek Vincent Smith, the man responsible for one of today’s most stunning electronic acts, has been silent. That all ended last Tuesday when “So Bright” found its way online. How that happened, though, is a bit hazy. Pretty Lights said it wasn’t meant to drop until closer to his new album’s release, but as soon as it ended up on Beatport, he had to make it official. In classic PL style, this track, just like the impending LP, is available free of charge. It was accompanied by a video highlight of this summer’s show in CO’s Red Rock Amphitheater, as well as the first details into in long-awaited release. Read what Smith had to say below.
My new release, “So Bright” is a dark, soulful song with a hard and hypnotic beat that will be on my upcoming record. I made a huge switch in my production techniques, and a marked evolution in my sound, all while still staying true to the PL style that I’ve developed. It has zero samples in it, as everything was self composed and recorded with several different bands I assembled, as well as many vocalists and emcees I recorded with. I’ll expand on the process and the album in general as the release draws closer, but I’m very excited about all of it. There are a few surprises in store that I’m quite anxious to reveal…Anyway, I hope the track is enjoyed while the rest of the record is completed. Thank you for the support.
