New Crystal Castles Song: “Wrath of God”
Despite my undying love of being boring and doing nothing, Crystal Castles is one of a handful of artists that brings the craziness out of me. There isn’t much, but there’s enough to really enjoy a good gathering of raging hipsters at a Crystal Castles concert. This Toronto based electronic duo has produced two albums and is about to release a third, simply entitled “Crystal Castles III” like their albums “Crystal Castles” and “Crystal Castles II.” These first albums are as all over the place as albums go, but there is a unique voice (literally) that glues their style together. Alice Glass, the lead vocalist of the group, may technically speak English in their songs, but the words are practically impossible to make out, and their YouTube comments are filled with lyric interpretations.
Despite their erratic work, Crystal Castles delivers, and their new song (a release from their upcoming album) “Wrath of God” is no different. At first I thought the song was forgettable and a Xerox of their previous work, but after several tries I can’t not love it. This song proudly sits between cool and calm electronic butter, and insane speaker liquidating turmoil. It also ensures that this album will at least be hit or miss. But what may seem like a miss at first can often turn into perfection later on. Listen to the track here:
