Girl Talk Makes a Real Song
Girl Talk, aka Greg Gillis, aka the king of mash ups has done pretty well for himself. Landing a New York Times profilejust for making intricate playlists is as about as good as it gets. Haters gonna hate, but if you’ve survived one of his dance-party concerts, you are well aware of the unique energy that’s created by simultaneously raging to two seemingly contradicting songs. However, Greg Gillis, in part of Pitchfork.tv’s Selector series, decided to silence the haters and try his hand at an original production. He had the help of Jim Jones to lay down some rhymes over this expectedly highly-sampled tune. “Believe in Magic” will hopefully do its part in silencing the haters, and bring light to Girl Talk’s musicality.
Check out the track below, and head over to Pitchfork to see the short making-of video.
